The BMW M3 Touring will drive you into bankruptcy!
If you want a BMW M3 Touring Competition with a whopping 510 hp, then you either have to have enough money or you have to tighten your belt. The purchase price alone is not the problem – gasoline and other utilities are what can ruin you in the end. We'll tell you what driving an M3 Touring really costs!
Of course, you have to buy or lease the M3 Touring first – depending on the case, it costs either from just under 92,000 euros or about 1,300 euros per month in leasing. Here we assume an annual mileage of 10,000 kilometers and a leasing period of 48 months.
That's how expensive it really gets with the M3 Touring!

All of the costs we list below refer to a holding period of four years, but are broken down to one year to make it easier.
Car tax and insurance
When calculating the motor vehicle tax, you come to 468 € per year, which is not even so bad – with insurance it is a little different. Let's assume you're 28 years old, employed and have a garage. In addition, you are listed in freedom of custody class 5 and want to insure the M3 fully comprehensive. The mileage remains at 10,000 kilometers per year.
If you have leased the car, you then pay a whopping 1,760 euros in insurance per year. If you're younger, let's say 20 years old, then you'll lose just under 2,400 euros.
Winter tire
Even in winter you need a car - and if you don't have a cheap second car, then you will need winter tires for the M3 Touring. A set of 19-inch wheels, i.e. tires and rims, costs about 4,480 euros. That makes 1,120 euros over a year. The tire change is also not free and has to be done twice a year, so we set 80 euros.
Spirit
When it comes to fuel, you really work up a sweat, because fuel costs are a high cost factor at the current petrol prices. The average consumption is given by BMW as 10.3 liters - in practice this is more, but we now calculate with the manufacturer's value.
With 10,000 kilometers a year, that's an enormous 1,916 euros if you fill up with Super and a liter costs 1.86 euros.
Car wash
Such a special car again M3 Touring needs to be well maintained, so our list also includes the car wash. We assume that only hand washing is an option, so the wash box is the best option. 20 euros a month plus care products makes about 360 euros a year.
Workshop and TÜV
Of course, you never know if something will break, but what you do know is the cost of the regular inspection. This is due after three years or 40,000 kilometers. At BMW, you can book two service packages: Service Inclusive and Service Inclusive Plus. The cheaper one costs 1,618 euros, the plus package also includes the brakes and therefore costs 2,570 euros. If we calculate this down to one year, we are either at just under 540 € or at 857 €.
There are no TÜV costs at the beginning, but after three years. In the meantime, HU and AU cost 155.50 €, over a year we would be at just under 52 €.

Oil, wiper water and parking
Fluids must be topped up regularly, including engine oil and windshield wiper fluid. We charge 17 € per year for oil, and a total of 16 € per year for the wiper water mixtures for summer and winter.
Of course, you don't just leave the M3 Touring on the side of the road, it needs a garage. If you don't own a home, you'll have to rent one, which is an expensive affair depending on where you live. On average, you pay 80 € per month, which would be 960 € per year for a parking space.
Expenditure on racetrack use
With a car like the M3 Touring, you certainly don't want to sneak, but also really step on the gas. The best way to do that is on the race track – and you'll certainly need an extra set of summer tyres in the four years. The brakes will then also be badly affected and would probably have to be replaced. And then there is one last cost item – lane adjustment. This is necessary if you often ride over uneven spots.
This would mean that we would have the following costs per year for the race track:
- Tyres: €237.50
- Brakes: € 1,005 – for ceramic brakes even € 5,457.50
- Track adjustment: 172,50 €
This is how much it costs to drive M3 Touring!
Phew, now take a deep breath. That was a lot of numbers and yes, you have to be able to afford an M3 Touring. Let's add up: in the best case, we come to €8,236 per year – and that's not even counting the costs for the purchase.
Think twice, because bankruptcy comes faster than you think!
